The centre of Bansko with the Pirin mountains behind

Bansko is about 160 km from Sofia airport – 2 to 2.5 hours by road. Most of our customers come by shared or private transfer; quite a few hire a car. The bus is the cheapest way but takes longest and mostly suits solo travellers, and a taxi is expensive. Whichever you choose, you can come straight to the shop with your luggage.

Shared transfer

A minibus picks up several groups at the airport and drops everyone at their hotel. It is the most popular way to Bansko and costs roughly €25-45 per person, depending on the company, the time of day and how many of you there are.

Private transfer

A car or minivan just for your group, door to door, at any time. Roughly €90-140 for a car (up to 4 people) and €140-180 for a minivan (up to 8), one way. For a family or a group it often costs about the same as a shared transfer and saves the waiting.

Some transfer companies and their own published prices (October 2026)
Company Price on their website
Bansko Express Shared shuttle £28-39 per person (flights 10:00-23:55); private car from £109
Pirin Transfers Private car €110 (1-2 people), €130 (3-4), minivan €180 (5-8); pay the driver
Bansko Transfers Private car from €90 (1-2 people), €100 (2-4), minivan €140-150
Ski-Lifts Shared from £22 per person, private from £120 per car

We don’t have a partner transfer company and don’t recommend one – these are examples with the prices they publish. Ask your hotel too: many organise transfers for their guests.

Hire car

All the big rental companies have desks at Terminal 2 (list on the airport website). The road is good once you are out of Sofia: the A3 motorway south to Simitli, then over the Predela pass to Razlog and Bansko. It is not busy except on big holiday weekends.

Parking in Bansko: our shop is right next to the gondola car park, and there is a paid blue zone on the street in front of us. Ask in the shop and we’ll show you some free parking a bit further away. Most hotels have their own parking too.

Bus

There is no bus from the airport straight to Bansko. Take the metro from Terminal 2 (line M4, change to M2 at Serdika for the Central Station, about €0.80) to Sofia Central Bus Station, or go to Ovcha Kupel bus station. Buses to Bansko take about 3 hours and cost about €12-14 (timetable; buy online up to 6 hours before).

Bansko bus station is about 2 km from the gondola – with skis and luggage, take a taxi for the last part.

Taxi

The airport’s official taxi company is Yellow!, with desks in the arrivals halls (airport transport page). Don’t take offers from drivers in front of the terminal. To Bansko, agree a fixed price before you leave – it is usually more expensive than a private transfer, so keep it for emergencies.

Train?

Possible but not practical: 6.5 to 9 hours with a change to the narrow-gauge railway at Septemvri. A lovely day trip, not a way to arrive.

Arriving in Bansko: come straight to the shop

You can come to the shop straight from the transfer, before checking in. Bring your luggage – we’ll help you with it, fit your skis and boots, and keep them overnight from the first day, so you walk to the gondola tomorrow without carrying anything. We’re open 08:00–18:00 in the season.
