Mainly known for being a ski resort nowadays
Bansko has been cultural and market center for decades in the past
The town of Bansko is located in a unique environment in a valley between three of the tallest Bulgarian mountains.
Bansko is a town with unique history and atmosphere. The locals have always been innovative and ambitious as shown throughout the whole city. One example is, the big church which was constructed during a time of Ottoman rule. Other examples are the notable achievements of citizens, who have left a solid mark in the history of the country. One of the most well known historical figures born in the town is Paisii, who wrote the first Bulgarian history book. Another is Neofit Rilski, who was one of the first teachers in Bulgaria and a key figure in bulgarian enlightenment. The poet Nikola Vaptzarov, whose poems are among the great examples of bulgarian literature, is also from Bansko.
We believe that the most important factor for the town’s progress is the awaken spirit and curiosity of its citizens. Moreover, preserving the traditions as they were decades ago is also a huge part of us. There is a festival, where people dress in traditional costumes on the 1st of January every year. If you are in Bansko around that time, we highly recommend joining us on the main square of the town.
